Pointers on applying for an armed security guard card (PILB Armed Card) in Las Vegas.

1. Review the directives on getting an unarmed guard card from the Nevada Private Investigator's Board. To become eligible for an armed guard card the Las Vegas security guard must first apply for and receive an unarmed guard card.
2. Check out the Armed Security Prep Guide and take the accompanying Armed Security Practice Test. This information will prove helpful to you as you apply for an armed guard card and work as an armed security officer.

3. Ensure that you meet the requirements for an armed card. Armed card applicants must be at least 21 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalency. They must also be employed by a private security provider.
4. Take the required training. This training is provided by several Las Vegas training providers. It includes both classroom and range time. Applicants should expect at least two days of training and a cost of about $150 to the school, additional cost for ammunition, and a charge of $25 that must be paid to PILB as a fee for issuing your new armed guard card.

Vegas' armed security training providers include:
- The Range 702 located at 5999 Dean Martin Dr. Classes take place on Monday and Tuesday. They cost $150 excluding the cost of ammunition and the $25 PIRB fee. The Range 702 also provides re-qualifying and refreasher courses.
- Discount Firearms LV provides the class on Wednesday and Thursday. They charge $99 and are located at 3084 S. Highland Drive.

5. Remember to requalify. Las Vegas armed guard card holders must requalify at least once every six months. You will likely be allowed to requalify at the same training facility where you receive your armed training.
6. Take refreasher courses. Las Vegas armed guard cards expire every 5 years. You will need to take a refreasher course prior to the expiration of the card. These courses are provied by the private training providers.
